A high-frequency proprietary trading firm seeks a Head of Tax to join its Legal & Compliance team in New York.
Responsibilities
Working with Legal and Compliance, Finance, firm management and other support functions, as well as trading teams, to drive efficient tax planning for all global business lines and trading in all markets and across varied financial products (e.g., 1256, straddles, crypto, transfer pricing, transaction level taxes)
Providing guidance on a wide variety of US and foreign tax matters, including (i) the use and ownership of telecommunications equipment and colocated servers in various jurisdictions, (ii) the formation and activity of managed funds, and (iii) strategic investments and JVs
Managing and maintaining relationships with external tax advisors
Evaluating the need for any restructuring projects to ensure long term tax efficiency across the organization, developing consensus on which projects to pursue, and driving them to successful completion (e.g., familiarity with recent U.S. tax reform topics and foreign tax credit planning would be valuable)
Being closely involved with partnership allocations and understanding / maneuvering through partner level tax planning and consequences (e.g., foreign tax credit utilization, NII, NESE)
Evaluating and ensuring maintenance of efficient architecture for global tax transfer pricing regimes and intellectual property
Ensuring adherence with global information sharing via FATCA, CRS, FBAR and other similar filings
Overseeing global tax compliance for permanent establishment issues and other responsibilities of the firm worldwide
Presenting on a regular basis to senior management and the firm’s partners on a variety of issues that affect the partnership
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree with 8 to 10 years of accounting / tax experience with a mix of public, hedge fund and financial services experience preferred
CPA / JD or equivalent certification
Meticulous attention to detail and strong organization skills
Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including ability to distill complex issues and analyses into simple explanations, and articulate pragmatic proposals and summaries of supporting analysis to senior managers at the firm in clear, concise and effective presentations
Anticipated annual base salary range $250,000 – $350,000, plus eligible for discretionary bonus
