International Tax Director

A global multi-strategy investment firm is currently seeking an experienced tax attorney for a newly established Director of International Tax role.  In this capacity, you will offer expert guidance and oversight in shaping our global tax strategy and ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in US inbound tax matters and possess a comprehensive grasp of general cross-border tax issues. This position will report to the Global Head of Tax and will be based out of our New York City or Stamford, CT offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Global Head of Tax to craft and execute a global tax strategy that aligns with the company’s expanding business aspirations.
  • Identify and effectively manage tax-related risks linked to cross-border transactions and operations, furnishing the business with verbal and written guidance on implementing tax-efficient structures and processes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including legal, finance, and business operations to ensure a coordinated approach to tax planning strategy and compliance.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with tax advisors and preparers.
  • Advise on tax implications of potential acquisition opportunities and support M&A teams on structuring new deals from a tax perspective.
  • Monitor changes in global tax legislation, regulations, and communicate the necessary recommendations to management.

Requirements:

  • JD/LLM is a prerequisite. CPA certification would be advantageous.
  • A solid background of 7-10 years in dedicated tax practice within a major law firm, with financial services industry experience considered a plus.
  • Prior experience working with financial services or private equity is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of international tax laws and regulations, including transfer pricing and tax treaties.
  • Strong organizational, communication skills, and attention to detail. Highly capable of presenting and communicating complex tax-related matters to broader audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a broader team.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the timely completion of initiatives and deliverables despite competing priorities.
