One of the oldest fund managers of its kind under continuous management, with AUM around $50 billion and offices in North America, Europe and Asia. Investors include endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, family offices, and employees of the firm. The fund is a multi-strategy investment firm implementing a broad range of strategies. Its strategies include private equity investments, private credit, activism and restructurings.
Responsibilities:
Partner with tax team and outside service providers on a variety of matters relating to the annual tax compliance process:
Management company tax compliance and related information filings (1099’s etc)
K-1 issuance
US International Filings: 5471’s, 8621’s, 8865’s, FBAR’s, 8938’s
indirect tax compliance items
Tax notices and payments
Facilitate administrative items (ie EL’s, SOW’s, etc) with third party service providers
Liaise with members of the fund accounting and corporate FP&A teams on additional tax compliance matters and special projects.
Assist with the management company entities, corporate and indirect taxes of the fund and management companies, commercial rent tax, sales and use tax returns, and VAT taxes.
Assist tax team members with the monthly tax estimates and presentation meetings to senior management.
Help with the proper administration of withholding taxes on certain payments to the funds and related entities.
Prepare quarterly reports relating to determining the character of payments from portfolio companies as either dividends or returns of capital
Work closely with the middle office team and tax structuring specialist on the proper booking of transactions and rebalancing of positions.
Work with outside service providers on PFIC testing and FIRPTA analysis.
Serve as the point person on investor-related tax questions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree 4-7 years of experience in a tax focused role in the asset management industry.
Interest in tax code and in expanding knowledge around fund tax compliance.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs Ability to think creatively and consider efficiencies around process and technology.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize workflow in a fast-paced environment.
Logistics: In office 2-3 days/week
