National Tax Director

Global tax & wealth consulting firm seeks National Tax Director to help build out its national tax office for CPA network members.  

The National Tax Director directs and oversees the technical training and development for network members. Monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes. Stays up to date with current tax law and legislation to include in member training. Deliver online and live group trainings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Lead and develop department staff.
• Draft Plays and How to Guides (policy and procedures) to develop training for department staff.
• Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
• Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:
• Serve as a technical resource for tax law questions from members and member clients.
• Consult with tax partners and managers of member firms on complex technical matters.
• Develop and implement planning strategies for the network members.
• Instruct at both internal and network training conferences.
• Draft articles for internal and external audiences.
• Leverage technical knowledge and experience to provide effective project management and practice development, delivering timely and responsive services and products that meet and/or exceed client expectations.
• Stay current on administrative and legislative developments to build on technical competence.
• Utilize tools and technologies to facilitate innovative strategies that improve client service as it relates to tax matters for network members and their clients.
• Assist in development of firm tax professionals as it relates to technical skills in accounting and tax planning through collaboration and coaching.
• Develop ideas and oversee tax aspects of software development.

Qualifications:
• Possesses ability to analyze complex business activities and evaluate the tax consequences.
• Strong organizational skills; able to effectively prioritize projects/tasks and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to articulate complex issues to others including in front of large audiences of tax professionals.
• Able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
• Ability to develop relationships, build rapport, and effectively interface with all levels within the organization including with member firms; attaining visibility and recognition company-wide within your specialization.
• Ability to travel as needed, approximately 5-20%

• Minimum 10 years of tax experience; preferably gained within a Big 4 public accounting firm.
• CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential required.
• Well-rounded tax professional with diverse technical experience, but who also has some specialty in partnership, trust and real estate taxation.
• Experience supervising and training staff.
